Matthew Poore

RIBA Chartered Architect

Matthew completed all stages of his architectural education at the University of Lincoln, a city shaped by its historic relationship with the River Witham and Brayford Pool; once a major inland port system in medieval England. Situated in the shadow of what was once the tallest building in the world, Lincoln Cathedral and its surrounding environment fostered a strong interest in traditional architecture, craftsmanship, and regional vernacular design.

Born and raised in South Essex, Matthew developed an early appreciation for the area’s rich but often overlooked architectural heritage, with its wide variety of listed buildings and historic structures; from the ruins of Hadleigh Castle to Southend’s mile-long pier . He became particularly interested in the relationship between old and new, and how historic buildings are either carefully integrated into contemporary design, or respectfully and sympathetically adapted and extended within their context.

After graduating with a Master’s in Architecture, Matthew worked in medium-sized practices in London and Essex, focusing on domestic and commercial residential projects. During this time, he developed a strong eye for detail and became increasingly involved in technical design solutions and the delivery of projects on site.

He enjoys working closely with clients to realise their vision for adapting historic buildings for modern living, while preserving and reinvigorating architectural details that reflect their history and evolution over time.

Matthew is a RIBA Chartered Architect and registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB). He has also completed the RIBA Building Conservation Course, further strengthening his specialist knowledge in working with historic fabric.

Alongside practice, Matthew is a Teaching Fellow at the University of Lincoln, where he contributes to design studios and delivers teaching in digital technologies. His teaching reflects a balance between contemporary practice and conservation thinking, encouraging an approach that embraces innovation while respecting the significance of the past.
